Toracon! Oh how I love thee…

Posted by on Apr 18, 2011 in Anime Cons, Blog, Daily Life | 0 comments

Though I wish you had food. I think this is my fourth year doing Toracon, and it’s great to see the show grow and grow and improve each year.

This year was no different, the only issue being that besides Asian Snacktime in the dealer’s room and Ben and Jerry’s there is no food to be had within walking distance.

My Last Two Posts Had Similar Titles…

Posted by on Oct 19, 2010 in Anime Cons, Artist Alley, Blog, Daily Life | 0 comments

About me forgetting to post. I’ve been doing stuff, some on my list, some not. Just about everyday around 10 pm I’d think, I should post in my blog. Then I get involved in something and suddenly it’s 12:45 am, and I’ve missed posting for the day. =/ So I’ve put an alert on my phone so it chimes at 11:00 with a note telling me to post on my blog.

Things on Walls is progressing. All things are now in frames. I have been chickening out over actually putting them on the walls because that involves things like nails and hammers, which make holes in walls and have the possibility of going very wrong. To take the excuses out of it, I decided to break down and buy some of those Command velcro strips that are made to hang pictures. I’d been resisting because they’re kind of pricy (4 or 5 dollars for enough strips to hang two pictures…) but I discovered that Joanns, Michaels and AC Moore all carry them, and they all have 40% off coupons and carry them in multipacks. So today I split the pictures by which room I’m planning to hang them in.

I’m planning to not hang the pictures in the library or bedroom yet, because I want to get shelves up in the Library (so I don’t know how much space is going to be available), and similarly with the bedroom I’m waiting for my custom mattress to come in to really arrange my room.

So my mission is to hang pictures in my living room tomorrow. Wish me well.

As a continuation of “Cook More” I decided to try to use all of the kitchen appliances/cookware I was gifted when I moved in and have never used. I started off by using my crockpot to make applesauce with some apples that were about to go bad. (lots of applesauce) I then used the applesauce to make Applesauce Banana Bread, Applesauce Banana Peanut butter Bread and Applesauce Banana Peanut Butter Muffins.  I also used my crockpot to make London Broil.

I’ve been eating applesauce, Apple-something Bread and London Broil everyday for a week. I’m freezing what’s left and going to try using my rice cooker tomorrow.

I’ve also scheduled a few conventions, I’ll be at Triplecon at Herkimer this weekend (the 23rd), and then at the Anime North Halloween Dance on the 29th in Toronto. I’ll be at Nekocon November 5th-7th in Virginia. I’ve got some new stuff to show off then, which I’ll try to talk about. I think that might be more interesting then my cooking attempts.

I’ve decided to sort my to-do list into “things that cost money” and “things that don’t” and give deadlines to the “things that don’t” first. Seems like a good starting point.

You know how I said I had no Cons…

Posted by on Aug 6, 2010 in Anime Cons, Blog | 1 comment

Until Anime Syracuse? I lied, kinda. I’m going to AniBash this weekend in Rochester, NY. They invited me months ago, and I kinda forgot. Oops! Lucky me I’ve got lots of stuff made, so I’ll be heading out tomorrow morning.

If you’re in the area, stop by! (It’s free to get in, it’s like a giant anime picnic)I’ll have info about Anime Syracuse there as well, and even have sign ups for vendors or artist alley with me.

A Quick Post Because Things Changed Again

Posted by on Jul 29, 2010 in Anime Cons, Anime Expo, Blog, Buttons, Connecticon, Website News | 0 comments

Mainly I’m posting because the Neko-Jin Girls just left after an extended stay and asked me almost every day if I had updated my blog. They’ll be at Otakon this weekend, so if you’ll be there check out their booth. I got a sneak peak at some of the stuff they were making and I doubt much of it is going to survive on the table for every long. Even better, you should head over to their page or livejournal and snap some stuff up before it disappears.

And now for a quick run down of what’s been going on since I last posted in *gasp* April!

I’ve been to two more conventions, Anime North and Connecticon. I had lots of fun at both, though Anime North is always the highlight of my year because I get to spend time with all the friends I’ve made there over the years. This year I room-shared with Ysa and crew so I got a lot more good actual social time with them. (As opposed to just waving as they pass my table at in the Dealer’s room.)

One of the coolest things about my trip to Toronto for Anime North was something that happened outside of the con. I got to see a live reading of a new play by a very good friend of mine, Regina Simon. It was an intimate little show and I was SO glad I got to see Harana performed. Harana is the story of Nene a young Fillipino girl coming of age during the Japanese occupation  and Fillipino resistance and is based off the experiences of Regina’s Grandmother. It’s an excellent story and I hope it gets performed again so that more people can share in it.

Besides going to cons I’ve been working on a lot of new stuff to sell and getting them up on the site (with help!) Check out the new necklace, hand mirror and ring categories. My personal favorite is the Star Girl Hand Mirror:

Random Fandom Star Girl Hand Mirror

In other news…

I no longer have roommates. Kristen and crew found a new home where they’ve actually been settled for a while now. We still have class and work together, so I can’t say I’ve had a chance to miss her. (I see her about as often as I did when she was living here, LOL.) Together we’ve completed our first semester of classes and almost finished the first of the second.

And to round up…

Because my life wasn’t crazy enough… I decided to help put on an anime convention here in Syracuse, the Anime Syracuse 2010 Festival. It will be a one day event in the Oncenter on September 11th. I’m the webmaster, staff artist, vendor coordinator and artist alley head. Pre-reg is open! Come out and have lots of nerdy fun! Because of that I don’t have another con planned for this year. I’m looking for events in October or November but it may be a little late to get into one. We’ll see!
